About Camp Humphreys

Camp Humphreys is the largest overseas U.S. military base in the world. Originally built as a Japanese airfield in 1919 during colonial rule, it was taken over by U.S. forces during the Korean War and named after Lt. Benjamin W. Humphreys, a U.S. Army officer killed in action at the Nakdong River defense line in 1950. Since 2017, under the Yongsan Relocation Plan (YRP), USFK, UNC, and CFC headquarters have relocated here. Today it operates as a massive military city housing approximately 36,000 people, with American-standard amenities including schools, a hospital, shopping centers, and a golf course.
