Korea and Belarus established ties in 1992 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and maintained generally cooperative bilateral relations through the 2000s. Korean companies showed interest in Belarus as a gateway to Eurasian markets, and early-stage economic cooperation was promising. Since 2020, however, the Lukashenko government's political repression and alignment with Russia — especially following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine — have significantly constrained the relationship. Korea has aligned with international positions on human rights and the conflict in Ukraine, limiting the scope for expanded cooperation.

Trade between Korea and Belarus is limited. Korean exports total approximately $38 million, primarily machinery, vehicles, and electronics, while imports from Belarus stand at around $14 million, largely potash, wood products, and manufactured goods. The trade relationship has been further constrained by international sanctions on Belarus and the broader disruption to Korean-Russian/Eurasian trade channels since 2022.
