Korea and Finland established diplomatic relations in August 1973 and have maintained warm, productive ties. The technology sector is a defining feature of the relationship: Finland was the world leader in mobile phones through Nokia before the smartphone era, and the Finnish gaming and tech ecosystem has intersected with Korean digital industries in creative ways. Korean companies such as Samsung and Hyundai have technical and commercial relationships with Finnish counterparts. Finland's EU membership and the Korea-EU FTA provide the framework for trade and investment cooperation. Finland's recent NATO membership is of considerable interest to Korea as it reflects changing European security architecture.

Bilateral trade between Korea and Finland reached approximately $1.38 billion in 2023. Korean exports of $390 million include electronics, automobiles, and chemicals, while Finnish exports of $990 million are led by industrial machinery, paper machinery, telecommunications equipment, and engineering goods. The trade balance favors Finland, reflecting the high value-add of Finnish industrial and technology exports. Finnish companies active in Korea include KONE (elevators), Wärtsilä (marine and energy), and Metso (industrial equipment).
