Korea and Poland established diplomatic relations in November 1989, at the dawn of Poland's democratic transformation. What began as an early post-Cold War opening has grown into one of the most substantial Korean partnerships in Europe. Polish-Korean relations were dramatically elevated when Poland signed a massive defense and industrial cooperation agreement with Korea in 2022-2023, covering the purchase of K2 tanks, K9 howitzers, FA-50 aircraft, and related technology transfer — the largest single defense export deal in Korean history. This defense dimension, combined with existing industrial investment, places Poland among Korea's most strategically significant European partners.

Poland is Korea's largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Two-way trade reached approximately $10.12 billion in 2023. Korean exports of $9.02 billion are dominated by EV batteries, electronics, and defense equipment (following the 2022 contracts), while Polish exports of $1.1 billion include machinery, automotive components, and manufactured goods — increasingly produced in Korean-owned factories in Poland. The trade relationship will likely continue to grow as defense deliveries are executed and EV battery capacity expands.
