Korea and Switzerland established diplomatic relations in February 1963 and have maintained consistently strong ties. Switzerland, like Sweden, served as a member of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission monitoring the Korean armistice since 1953 — a role that gives Bern a unique relationship with both Koreas. Modern bilateral ties are anchored in the Korea-EFTA Free Trade Agreement (in force since 2006), investment flows, and cooperation in international forums in Geneva. Swiss companies such as Nestlé, Roche, and Novartis have significant presences in Korea, and Korean firms are active in the Swiss market.

Bilateral trade between Korea and Switzerland totaled approximately $4.38 billion in 2023. Korean exports of $1.13 billion include electronics, machinery, vehicles, and steel products, while Swiss exports of $3.25 billion are heavily dominated by pharmaceutical products, precision instruments, and luxury watches. The trade balance strongly favors Switzerland, largely driven by the pharmaceutical sector — Swiss drug companies supply a significant share of Korea's pharmaceutical imports.
