Korea and Türkiye established diplomatic relations in March 1957. The relationship is grounded in a profound historical bond: Türkiye sent approximately 15,000 troops to fight in the Korean War, suffering significant casualties — a sacrifice deeply honored in Korea. The two countries often describe each other as 'brother nations,' a sentiment that remains genuine and influences diplomatic exchanges. Economically, the relationship is dynamic: Turkish manufacturers compete with and complement Korean ones in several sectors, and the two countries concluded a free trade agreement that has boosted bilateral commerce. Both are significant regional powers in their respective neighborhoods.

Türkiye is one of Korea's top trading partners in the Europe/Near East region. Two-way trade reached approximately $10.43 billion in 2023. Korean exports of $8.99 billion are led by petroleum products, steel, and electronic components — Türkiye is a major buyer of Korean steel and synthetic resins for its manufacturing sector. Turkish exports of $1.44 billion include vehicles, automotive parts, textiles, and agricultural products. The Korea-Turkey FTA (in force since 2013) has facilitated sustained trade growth.
